I have been a patient at Hawthorns for over 20 years and have no complaints whatsoever. My only worry about my surgery is the difficulty in making an unexpected appointment. When you feel ill it is a real effort to manage to get through on the phone. Once you get through usually all appointments are gone. You then say yes it's an emergency so that you can see someone that same day. Those emergency appointments need to be kept for just that. But when you know you need to see someone that day you do what you have to do. It feels wrong.

There is one particular receptionist who is extremely helpful and pleasant and no matter what she keeps smiling which is admiral given the volume of patients and their respective demands. She also tries to help with making an appointment which is very frustrating now, particularly when you want to see your own doctor. I wish they were all as helpful and pleasant. There is one male nurse who, when I went to get my flu jab for the first time this year I did not want to see as he made a bad job of taking some blood from my son leaving his arm very bruised. Thankfully he did not administer this. Another frustration at this practice is the parking situation, which is now nowhere near adequate since the volume of patients has increased dramatically since we first joined. Patients just park on double yellow lines and also in the disabled bays, or anywhere, which makes it difficult to enter and exit the car park safely at times.

It is difficult to get appointments but when it's been urgent the practice has managed to fit us in. In passed years when the children were in need of attention we were seen in good time.

Once you manage to get an appointment (online is actually 5-star if you're not in a hurry), the service and care is brilliant. The surgery is probably just a victim of its own success, meaning they are often over capacity.
